Stage set for a direct contest between AIADMK and VCK in Kallakurichi (SC)

The predominantly agrarian Kallakurichi (SC) Assembly constituency encompassing panchayat unions of Kallakurichi and Thiyagadurgam make up one of the largest areas dominated by low-income groups, farm labourers and Dalits. These areas have remained so for decades, now with no improvement in the socio-economic condition of its residents.

After the delimitation exercise in 2008, the constituency became a Reserved segment and consistently returned candidates of the AIADMK in the 2011, 2016 and 2021 elections. This time the constituency is headed for a strong fight between the AIADMK and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
