Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu and DMK parliamentary party leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi on Tuesday handed over a representation from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi requesting to release funds for Colachel fishing harbour in Kanniyakumari district.

In a social media post, M.K. Stalin expressed hope that the Union Minister would release funds for the project.

Fishermen from Kanniyakumari district had earlier called on Mr. Stalin and requested for expansion of the Colachel fishing harbour. The TN government has sought allocation of ₹350 crore under the Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund through the NABARD.

The State government also requested funds to the tune of ₹4,500 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund through the NABARD. Mr. Thennarasu said that they requested Ms Sitharaman to release funds soon.
