Stalin, Udhayanidhi lay foundation stones of two small stadiums in Salem district

SALEM: Chief minister M K Stalin and deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday laid the foundation stones of small stadiums in Sankari and Edappadi assembly constituencies in Salem district.

A small stadium will be built at Vadugapatti in Sankari taluk at a cost of Rs 2.62 crore while another one will be built at the Govt Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Edappadi at Rs 3 crore. The foundation stones were laid by the CM and the deputy CM via videoconferencing from Chennai. Following the virtual ceremony, tourism minister R Rajendran participated in a function at Edappadi Govt Boys’ Higher Secondary School. He said, “The deputy chief minister has announced that a small sports stadium would be built in every assembly constituency on behalf of the youth welfare and sports department. Accordingly, steps are being taken to set up small sports stadiums in all assembly constituencies to ensure the fitness of people and for development of athletes," the minister said.The small stadium in Edappadi would have a running track, a gallery, a basketball court, a football court, a handball court, a go-go court, a kabaddi court and a gymnasium, he added.
