The Public Works Department has asked C.S. Shadakshari, president of Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association, to vacate the government quarters in Shivamogga, as he was transferred to Bengaluru years ago.

The Executive Engineer of PWD (Special Division) in Shivamogga, on November 29, wrote to Mr. Shadakshari to vacate the government residential quarters (ON-4) in Basavanagudi, Shivamogga. When he was allotted the quarters, Mr. Shadakshari was the Accounts Superintendent at the office of the Joint Director of the Audit and Accounts Department in Shivamogga. He was transferred from Shivamogga to Kolar in November 2023 and later to Bengaluru.

The PWD officer, in his letter, stated that Mr. Shadakshari was asked to vacate through a letter on October 10, 2024. In response, Mr. Shadakshari wrote to the PWD and requested that his family continue to stay in the quarters until the end of the academic year. However, he did not vacate even after the academic year ended.

The PWD has brought the issue to the notice of Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegade as well. The Executive Engineer of the PWD sent the letter, as the Chief Engineer (Communications and Buildings) of the PWD wrote to Shivamogga DC on November 18, 2025, and requested him to ensure Mr. Shadakshari vacates the quarters. The officer stated as Mr. Shadakshari had not vacated the quarters as per the rules, the quarters could not be allotted to any other official working in the city.

When The Hindu contacted Mr. Shadakshari for his comments, he denied receiving any such letter. However, he added that he would follow the rules and vacate the quarters.
