Panaji: Goa police on Thursday claimed a reduction of approximately 32% in crimes against women in the state during the first eight months of the year, based on police control room (PCR) calls, compared to the corresponding period last year.Similarly, there was a drop in hit-and-run accident cases by around 17% and complaints related to bullfighting by around 42%.Superintendent of police (SP) (crime) Rahul Gupta said Goa police reported a notable decline in the number of PCR calls across key categories received at the 112 emergency response support system from Jan to Aug 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. “The decline is indicative of enhanced public safety, strengthened enforcement, and improved response mechanisms across the state,” he said. The SP said that an overall reduction of 8.82% in crime was observed when compared with the previous year. “Particularly noteworthy is the decline in crime against women, which dropped by 31.7% during this period. A significant drop was also seen in theft and snatching-related calls, which fell by 20.9% and 28.5% respectively,” Gupta said.“Bullfighting complaints dropped by 41.7%, and hit-and-run incidents by 16.6%.
Calls related to assault decreased by 8.4%, accident-related calls by 7.7%, traffic-related calls by 7.2%, and noise pollution complaints by 4.8%,” the SP said.He said the decline across these categories is a result of proactive policing measures undertaken by Goa police. These include systematic tenant and servant verification, preventive actions against known anti-social elements, enhanced police presence including the introduction of new PCR vehicles in sensitive areas, and targeted action against known criminals. These measures have not only reduced opportunities for crime, but also built confidence among the public.
