Stranger To Lover To Blackmailer: Delhi Man Arrested For Threatening Woman With Acid Attack

After a complaint was filed on May 28, investigations revealed that Arora had created nine fake Instagram profiles and a Gmail ID to target the woman.

A 37-year-old man was arrested for threatening a woman, reportedly his ex-girlfriend, with an acid attack in Delhi. Identified as Himanshu Arora, the man is a Delhi University graduate who was taken into custody on charges of harassment.

The victim met Arora on Instagram in 2021. They became good friends, and over time, the accused coerced her into sharing private content, which he later used to blackmail her, according to a police official cited by PTI.

When the woman confronted Arora, he tried to shift the blame, claiming he had given his laptop to a technician for repairs and that the technician may have stolen her data. However, he continued the harassment without pause.

“She was subjected to demands for money, including an extortion attempt of Rs 1 lakh, forced participation in explicit video calls, and threats ranging from acid attacks and kidnapping to fabricated legal charges such as fake FIRs and murder case allegations," the police said.

Following a complaint filed on May 28, investigations revealed that Arora had created nine fake Instagram profiles and a Gmail ID to target the woman.

Police also found that the mobile number used to create these accounts was registered in Arora’s mother’s name but was being operated by him.

Notably, Arora is married, and his family runs a sanitary business in the Friends Colony Industrial Area of Shahdara.

He was apprehended on May 29 and later confessed to the blackmail and sexual exploitation. He has since been sent to judicial custody.

Authorities seized two mobile phones and a laptop from him, which contained nude and semi-nude photographs of the woman, a screenshot of a fake Instagram ID, and login credentials linked to the abusive online profiles.
