“India has a glorious cultural and educational heritage. We are emerging as a developed and powerful nation today due to the strength of this heritage. All of us need to realise this and strive to protect it,” Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said in Belagavi on Sunday.
He was speaking at the centenary ceremony of B.K. Model High School.
“The British wanted to enslave us. That is why, they sowed the seeds of inferiority in our minds. India was given the image of a poor and ignorant nation. We need to get out of the inferiority complex given to us by them. We need to realise that under the rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has reached unprecedented levels of development. There is significant progress in removing such inferiority. We should never forget that our country has the legacy of wisemen like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Varahamihira, Charaka and Sushruta,” he said.
“Our country is endowed with the unique knowledge of sages and saints. Some people try to term the new education policy as saffronization. It is rather a move that reflects India’s sacred knowledge heritage. Today, India has become the fourth largest economic power in the world because of our knowledge heritage,” he said.
KLE Society chairman Prabhakar Kore recalled the contribution of the founders of the school. “The influence of missionary schools was high during the time when Belagavi was the regional headquarters of the British rulers. In such difficult times, some courageous teachers and donors came together to start this school. It is a matter of pride that B.K. Model School has completed a successful journey of a hundred years through quality education,” he said.
The school committee has organised several programmes, including an alumni meet.
School committee office-bearers Avinash Potdar and A.K. Hungund, Mayor Mangesh Pawar, Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi, writer Basavaraj Jagajampi, the former MLA Sanjay Patil, school alumnus Jayant Deshpande and others were present.
