The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), Mysuru, has welcomed the statement made in the Assembly on Monday by Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa that not a single government school in the State has been closed due to low admissions, and that no such closure will take place in the future either.
“We consider this as a victory of the people’s movement, achieved through the united efforts of thousands of students, parents, teachers, and citizens who came forward to support the 50-lakh signature campaign organised by AIDSO across the State. The campaign was launched against the government’s earlier decision to close or merge government schools with low admissions. The overwhelming participation of the people has compelled the government to step back from implementing such anti-people measures,” a statement from AIDSO said here.
However, the government’s order on closure and merger of low admission schools is still in force. Hence, the AIDSO appealed to the people to remain vigilant until the order is officially withdrawn, the release stated.
The AIDSO also urged the government to take immediate steps to strengthen government schools by repairing and rebuilding over 21,000 school buildings that are in a poor state and by filling up more than 61,000 vacant teaching posts, said Nithin, district secretary, AIDSO, Mysuru.
