Students Hold Nilamber Pitamber University Officials Hostage Over Delayed Results

Daltonganj: Over half a dozen students on Thursday held the vice-chancellor and other senior officials of Nilamber Pitamber University hostage for nearly an hour by locking the main gate of the university to demand the declaration of results for the 2022-24 undergraduate courses.

The university authorities, however, said the protesters were not students and were seeking cheap publicity in the name of student protests. The protesters shouted anti-VC slogans, threatening more direct actions if the results of the 2022-24 session of IT courses were not declared in a day or two. The university then called the police, who rushed to the scene on bikes to seize and open the lock. Two policemen on bikes — Panthers — reached the protest site and opened the lock.

After the incident, VC Dinesh Kumar Singh said, “It’s the height of nonsense. These people are not any regular students.

It’s sheer seeking of publicity in the name of students’ demands.” Regarding the declaration of results of the undergraduate courses for the 2022-24 session, the VC said, “The examination department is working on it. The results will be declared very soon. Such a brouhaha by a handful of so-called students never helps.

It rather slows down the pace of work.”When reminded that 2025 is about to end and the results of the 2022-24 session of the undergraduate courses are yet to be declared, the VC said, “There is no denying the fact that results were delayed. Many unforeseen situations did crop up, which caused the delay.” University sources said such stirs are quite frequent here, where some non-students posing as students create ugly scenes on the campus in an attempt to disrupt the day-to-day functioning of the university.
