Supplyco had record sales of ₹386 crore during the Onam season sales, of which ₹180-crore sales were of items that had been subsidised by the Civil Supplies Corporation, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies G.R. Anil said in the Assembly on Tuesday
The government could effectively take up market interventions to hold the price line during Onam, resulting in much cash-saving for the people, he said. A total of 1.49 lakh tonnes of rice, worth ₹598 crore was supplied through ration shops during Onam
The government had taken effective steps in keeping the market price of coconut oil under check and was able to sell coconut oil from Kerafed through Supplyco at ₹457 per litre at a time when the market price of coconut oil was ₹529 a litre. This was brought down further so that the Kera brand could be sold at $429 .
During Onam, Supplyco’s Sabari brand was sold at the subsidised rate of ₹339 and at ₹389 without subsidy.
Mr. Anil announced that from September 22, the price of Sabari brand of coconut oil would be made available at ₹310 (subsidised) and at the non-subsidised rate of ₹359 a litre . Kerafed’s Kera brand would be sold in retail market at the wholesale price of ₹419 per litre from September 22. The coconut oil prices would be brought down further from next month, the Minister said.
