An explosion took place near the Naushera village inside Punjab’s Amritsar (Rural) district on Tuesday, allegedly killing a terrorist linked to Babbar Khalsa International, a banned Khalistani outfit, according to police.
Police officers received information and arrived at the scene of the blast in Amritsar, said SSP Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh. A person was seriously injured in the explosion and was admitted to a hospital, where he reportedly succumbed to his injuries.
Police suspect that the accused is part of a terrorist organisation who had come to receive a consignment of explosives. The SSP said he was injured due to the mishandling of an explosive.
“Babbar Khalsa and ISI is active in Punjab and most likely, he is a member of Babbar Khalsa," DIG (Border Range) Satinder Singh told news agency ANI, adding that further investigation is underway.
