The State government held a meeting with exporters from key sectors amid concerns over tariffs imposed by the U.S.

The meeting, chaired by Minister for Industries T.R.B. Rajaa, was held at Guidance Tamil Nadu and had exporters from sectors including textiles, automobiles, gems & jewellery, heavy engineering, electronics as participants.

“In the midst of significant shifts in global trade flows, it is imperative for us to listen directly to our exporters, understand the hurdles in their paths and calibrate our policy response to safeguard their competitiveness,” Mr. Rajaa said in a post on X.

“Tamil Nadu accounts for nearly 31 per cent of its exports to the U.S. while India’s overall exports to the US stands at around 20 per cent only. While we look to the Union Government to chart national trade policy that cushions our exporters from severe shocks, we stand shoulder to shoulder with them in that endeavour. Our responsibility as one of India’s largest exporter state is to act quickly, decisively, and in close coordination with industry”, he said.

Mr. Rajaa added that the government is taking this as an opportunity to identify structural fixes that will serve exporters in the long term. “We are determined to ensure Tamil Nadu, as India’s export engine, remains strong and future-ready,” he asserted

“We have more such consultations lined up in the coming days and we will of course seek the help of our Chief Minister. With the resilience of our people and the State’s unwavering commitment, Tamil Nadu will continue to move to its next phase of export growth,” he said.

Mr. Rajaa added that the government of Tamil Nadu will strive hard to ensure the interests of primary and secondary sectors are protected from all external impacts.
