Fresh fragrance of jasmine flowers on acres of farmland in Palanandal village, which form part of Chengam Assembly constituency that is a reserved seat for Scheduled Castes (SC) in Tiruvannamalai district, identifies itself with farming that forms the nucleus of this Assembly seat.

Along with Kuppanatham village, which also has a large dam in its name there, Palanandal village has been a hub for jasmine cultivation in the region for many years. Farmers in surrounding villages also cultivate paddy, sugarcanes, bananas, groundnuts and tomatoes. Water from irrigation tanks and ponds remains a key water source for cultivation.
