Tamil Nadu government constitutes Seventh State Finance Commission

The Tamil Nadu government has constituted the Seventh State Finance Commission, three years after the Sixth submitted its report in February 2022. The present panel will review the financial position of various urban and rural local bodies and make appropriate recommendations on the distribution of funds to be provided by the State government.

Retired IAS officer K. Allaudin is its chairperson. The Commission will give its recommendations on the distribution between the State and the urban and rural local bodies of the net proceeds of the taxes, duties, tolls and fees leviable by the State, which may be divided between them, and the allocation between said local bodies of their respective shares of such proceeds.

It will also submit its recommendations over the determination of taxes, duties, tolls, and fees which may be assigned to or appropriated by the rural and urban local bodies; and the grants-in-aid to said local bodies from the Consolidated Fund of the State, an official release said.

The Commission will submit its report by August 31, 2026, covering a period of five years, beginning on April 1, 2027. Tiruppur Mayor N. Dinesh Kumar will be the non-official member of the panel. The Director of Municipal Administration, the Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, and the Commissioner of Town Panchayats will be ex-officio members. IAS officer Pratik Tayal will be the Member-Secretary of the panel.
