Tamil Nadu is set to become the epicenter of global junior hockey as it has been named the host for the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup, scheduled from November 28 to December 10, 2025. In an official ceremony on Thursday, Hockey India (HI) and the Government of Tamil Nadu signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to co-host the prestigious tournament in the cities of Chennai and Madurai.

The 2025 edition marks a significant milestone in the tournament’s history, expanding to include 24 teams for the first time. This expansion, up from the previous 16, makes it the largest and most competitive Junior World Cup to date, promising a wider global representation and a more intense battle for the coveted title. The official logo for the mega-event was also unveiled during the announcement.

Speaking at the event, Tamil Nadu’s Deputy Chief Minister, Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin, expressed immense pride in hosting the tournament. “This is a proud moment not just for our state, but for the entire country," he stated. “Hosting such a prestigious international tournament reflects our commitment to supporting and developing sport at all levels. We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that this tournament is organised with the highest standards of excellence." He assured that Chennai and Madurai are well-prepared to offer a world-class experience to all participants and fans.

Echoing the sentiment, Hockey India President and former captain Dilip Tirkey highlighted the event’s strategic importance. “The FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025 is a crucial event in the international hockey calendar — a breeding ground for future legends of the sport," Tirkey remarked. He conveyed his satisfaction with the partnership, which aims to deliver a memorable and flawlessly executed tournament, further cementing India’s reputation as a premier host for international hockey events.
