Taxi driver found dead in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A taxi driver was found dead along Chandaka-Barang road, five days after he went missing. He died by suicide at a place where he was kept hostage, police sources said.

The body was later thrown by the roadside to make it appear like a murder, police added.Preliminary probe revealed that the deceased, Bidyadhar Sahu, 35, who was found dead near Daruthenga village, duped many people by promising them jobs. After the body was found, police traced the person, who called up Sahu’s wife. This led police to the suspect, who revealed about the incident. He has been detained.Sahu went missing on Sept 15 and a complaint was lodged at Badagada police station.

“Sahu was with people, who abducted him to make him repay the money they paid him for jobs. Interrogation revealed Sahu was neither repaying the money nor returning the documents he took from the job seekers,” said DCP Jagmohan Meena.Police said Sahu came under pressure because of constant confrontation with job seekers while in their custody and allegedly strangled himself using a towel. “Interrogation of the man, one of the persons, who gave Sahu advance money revealed that after Sahu killed himself, they decided to dispose of the body,” said police.

A few coins, a purse, and a liquor bottle were found while Sahu’s car was found parked close to the place where the body was thrown. Family members, however, have alleged that he was kidnapped and murdered. “Six persons are likely to be arrested,” a police officer added.
