TRIGGER WARNING: This article includes references to domestic violence.Taylor Frankie Paul is stepping into the spotlight again, but this time it’s not just about reality TV drama: she’s trying to hit reset on her life. As the new lead for ‘The Bachelorette Season 22’, Paul said filming the show helped her finally break free from what she called a “bubble” of “toxicity” back in Utah, and her timing couldn’t be more intense.
Her private life is currently under a microscope, so her search for love is tangled up with her own journey to heal.
What happened?
Why did she sign up for ‘The Bachelorette’? Paul didn’t hold back in a recent interview with People before the premiere. She straight-up called joining the show “the best thing I could have done.” For her, it wasn’t just about meeting a bunch of different guys, though she said that part was fun. It was about leaving Utah and everything that came with it, that tight-knit culture she’d always known.
Trying something totally new, she says, left her with zero regrets. In her own words, in addition to dating and “meeting so many” men with “different personalities,” she was also adjusting to “leaving the culture of Utah.” “I think it was like the best thing and something I've never done before, so I have no regrets,” she said.Of course, life doesn’t pause just because you’re on TV.Paul, who you might remember from ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’, had "one condition" before agreeing to the show: she needed to see her kids: "That was the biggest question I had going into it, but other than that, it was like almost an immediate yes."
For the unversed, Paul shares daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 5, with her ex-husband Tate Paul, and has a 1-year-old son, Ever, with ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen.
Taylor Frankie Paul: Who is she?
Paul’s rise started with viral TikToks in the #MomTok community, where she let followers peek into her life as a young mom. That led to her role on ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’, a reality show that dove into the messier sides of Utah’s social scene. But things have been rocky. Just a day before her People interview, Paul and her ex were named in an open domestic assault investigation.
Police said, “allegations have been made in both directions.” A source close to Paul insists she wasn’t violent during the incident with Mortensen. And through it all, she’s trying to focus on the Bachelorette premiere. “My heart hurts to see these reports, especially now,” she admitted.
“The timing is brutal. Every premiere I’ve had, I’ve never really enjoyed, and this one’s no different. It’s just a lot.”Paul was honest about how tough it’s been. “I’m struggling for sure, but if I don’t show up, I’m just giving away these opportunities.
We worked hard on this, and it’s something exciting. I just have to show up, even when it’s hard.”However, the fallout didn’t stop with her. After the domestic violence allegations, sources told People that ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ paused filming on season 5. The cast has started to distance themselves from Paul, with insiders saying the women have decided they’re “done for right now.”Notably, this isn’t the first time Paul’s faced legal trouble.
Back in 2023, she was arrested after an argument with Mortensen. She was accused of throwing a chair that hit her daughter, leading to misdemeanor charges. She pleaded guilty in abeyance to aggravated assault, which means that if she follows the rules of her plea, the charge will be dropped. The other charges are already dismissed.
