A woman teacher was attacked inside the Government Lower Primary School at Peroor on Thursday morning by her estranged husband, triggering panic on the campus.
The victim was identified as Donia, a native of Mosco. The accused, identified as Kochumon, barged into the school and slashed her neck with a knife. She was rushed to a nearby hospital by fellow teachers and her condition is reported to be stable.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. near Poovathumoodu. According to the police, Donia and Kochumon had been living separately for several weeks due to family issues.
The police said the accused reached the school around 10 a.m. and asked the headmistress whether Donia had come in. Since she had not arrived yet, he waited on the premises. Once the woman reached the school, the accused called her out of the school and attacked her with a knife he had hidden in his hand.
Hearing her screams, other teachers rushed to the spot and quickly shifted her to the hospital. By then, Kochumon had escaped from the school compound. The police have launched a search for the accused.
