The Telangana State Human Rights Commission on Thursday directed the immediate return of certificates belonging to 17 B. Pharmacy students of Sultan-ul-Uloom College of Pharmacy, Hyderabad, after finding that the college had illegally withheld them on the pretext of pending government fee reimbursement.

The case was taken up following a complaint by the students alleging that the retention of their original documents, including Transfer Certificates, was jeopardising their chances of pursuing higher education.

In its order, the Commission observed that such practices violate the fundamental human rights of students and obstructed their Right to Education guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.

The Commission recommended the immediate release of the withheld certificates and directed the Hyderabad District Collector to take appropriate action against the college management.
