An 80-year-old temple priest was killed when a speeding Electric (EV) BMTC bus allegedly knocked him down on Channasandra main road on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Narayana Shastri, priest of a temple nearby who was walking towards the M.V.J. bus stop when the bus coming from Hope Farm knocked him down.
Shastri sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Vydehi hospital where he succumbed later. The Mahadevapura traffic police arrested the bus driver, Gangaraju, charging him under death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving for further investigation.
This comes even as there have been at least five fatal accidents in the recent days involving BMTC buses. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has stepped up its safety measures to ensure accident-free driving by its staff, following a review of road mishaps involving its buses.
