TGHRC seeks report from DGP over infant’s death in alleged caste-based assault at Nagarkurnool temple

The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has taken cognisance of a complaint submitted by representatives of the BC, SC, ST–Joint Action Committee (JAC) regarding the alleged murder of a two-month-old infant and assault on members of a family in Kummera village of Nagarkurnool district.

According to the complaint, members of a family were allegedly abused with caste-based slurs and physically assaulted by certain individuals in the village. During the incident, it is alleged that a two-month-old infant died after being thrown to the ground, and several members of the family sustained injuries. The complainants also alleged that valuables including gold ornaments and cash worth ₹1 lakh were looted during the attack.

The complaint alleged that the local police did not register appropriate offences against the accused and failed to take prompt action to arrest them. The complainants stated that the incident involved serious offences including murder and sought registration of cases under relevant provisions along with applicable provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Taking note of the seriousness of the allegations, the TGHRC has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to submit a detailed report on the incident and the action taken by the police authorities. The Commission has sought the report by March 24 for further examination of the case.
