Jack Hughes wants his Olympic gold-winning puck back from the Hockey Hall of Fame, calling it “bulls---” that it’s on display instead of with him or his family.

Jack Hughes has made it crystal clear: he wants his puck back.
The Team USA star, who scored the overtime winner to clinch gold at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics 2026, has taken issue with the fact that the historic puck is currently sitting in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
And he isn’t holding back.
“I’m trying to get it. Like, that’s bulls— that the Hockey Hall of Fame has it, in my opinion. Why would they have that puck?," Hughes stated to ESPN.
A Goal That Ended a 46-Year Wait
Hughes’ strike, beating Jordan Binnington just 1:41 into overtime, secured the United States’ first men’s Olympic hockey gold since the iconic Miracle on Ice in 1980.
It was a defining moment. The kind that ends up in museums. Which is exactly where it is now.
The puck forms part of the Hall of Fame’s “Olympics ’26" exhibit, alongside memorabilia from the women’s tournament, including the overtime-winning puck from Megan Keller.
“Why Don’t We Have Them?"
For Hughes, that’s the problem.
“I don’t see why Megan Keller or I shouldn’t have those pucks."
The 24-year-old admitted he didn’t even realise the puck wasn’t with him until weeks after the final, when the question came up in an interview.
“I honestly don’t know where that puck went. I know who doesn’t have it is me. I sure as hell don’t have it."
Now that he does know, he wants it returned. Not just for himself, but for family.
Hughes said he would like the puck to go to his father, Jim Hughes, who collects memorabilia for him and his brothers.
History vs Ownership
The Hall of Fame, however, sees it differently.
According to its leadership, items like Hughes’ puck represent defining moments in hockey history — artefacts meant to be preserved and shared with fans worldwide.
The International Ice Hockey Federation had also confirmed that the puck was secured immediately after the game and designated for archival preservation.
