The wedding of one of India’s most followed educators, Khan Sir, recently made headlines, partly due to a detail that gained attention on social media. According to the online media reports, held in Patna, the ceremony was a private affair, but images shared online showed the bride with her face covered by a veil, leading to discussions and speculation across platforms.
“It was her childhood dream,” says Khan Sir
In a recent interview with news agency ANI, Khan Sir– whose real name is reportedly Faisal Khan– said the decision to wear the veil was entirely his wife’s.“I had tried to dissuade her, but she said it was her childhood dream,” he told ANI, clarifying that the choice was made voluntarily. He added that no one had asked her to remain covered and that it was her personal preference.Khan Sir said that some brides prefer wearing traditional attire, and for some, the veil, or ghoonghat, carries cultural or emotional value.
“Many girls love being decked in bridal finery and donning a ghoonghat on their special day,” he said.Watch here:
“The veil helps distinguish the bride”
He further added that in some traditions, a bride covering her face is seen as a way to distinguish her from other attendees. “The presence of the veil helps to differentiate the bride from the rest of the women present,” he said.
Khan Sir calls for privacy
He also asked the public to respect individual choices, especially regarding personal occasions like weddings.
He noted that cultural expressions should not be misinterpreted or politicised.
Bride wore traditional attire
AS Khan, the bride, wore a red embroidered lehenga with a matching dupatta draped over her face. Her outfit followed the style of traditional Indian bridal wear.

According to an Economic Times report, Physics Wallah founder Alakh Pandey was among those who attended the wedding. The two teachers, who share a deep bond of mutual respect and collaboration, were seen embracing warmly at the reception.

As reported by the Economic Times, Khan Sir’s wife, AS Khan, is a government officer from Siwan, Bihar. She maintains a quiet and respectable professional career.
