Dalit man who was assaulted in UP temple
The 65-year-old Dalit man who was allegedly thrashed and forced to lick urine inside a temple in Uttar Pradesh has said that he has been assured of action against the accused.
Speaking to ANI, the man narrated his ordeal and said, “They forced me to lick urine. When I refused to do so, I was forced further to lick the urine. They kicked me and left. Later, several leaders intervened in the matter, offering assurances of action."
“There was no prior enmity. We live in a peaceful neighbourhood with a temple. People involved in this act live near the Katra Bazar area," he told ANI.

What’s The Case?
The incident took place on Monday when the 65-year-old victim, a resident of Hata Hazrat Sahab, urinated accidentally near the premises. He is diagnosed with a chronic respiratory condition.
According to eyewitnesses, Swamikant alias Pammu, a local resident, reacted violently upon noticing the incident.
The old man was assaulted, accused of “defiling the temple," and forced to lick urine in the name of “purifying the area."
It did not end there; the accused also thrashed the victim, Rampal, and hurled abuses at him. He was verbally abused with casteist remarks and humiliated in public.
Accused Arrested
An official complaint was filed in connection with the incident at the Kakori police station. ACP Kakori Shakeel Ahmed confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody.
“Based on the victim’s complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Further investigation is underway," he said.
