Former India player Aakash Chopra took a dig at the England side who went down 3-0 in the Ashes series on Sunday leading to Australia retaining the urn with 2 matches in hand. England, who came in the series with a lot of confidence, are now looking at a very real possibility of getting whitewashed 5-0.
Chopra took a subtle shot at the Ben Stokes-led crew, saying that he can’t wait for the build up for the next Ashes where ‘the best England team’ will play, a knock on the chatter before the 2025 series with English experts pointing branding the current English side as the best to tour Australia.
“Can’t wait for the build-up for the next time England goes to Australia. Surely, that’ll be the best English team to play #TheAshes. And the English cricket fans will lap it up. Can’t blame them either…they’ve embraced ‘entertainment’ over ‘results’ already,” Chopra posted on X.

Earlier on Sunday, Australia retained the Ashes after paceman Mitchell Starc took three of the last four wickets to blunt England’s defiant comeback in a tense fifth-day finish to the third cricket test. Australia started Day 5 needing four wickets to retain the Ashes, with England resuming at 6-207 and still 228 runs away from the victory target of 435 that would have required a world record to achieve.
Australia, without regular captain Pat Cummins, had already taken a 2-0 lead in the series under Steve Smith with 8-wicket wins at Perth and Brisbane. Cummins returned for the 3rd Test but Smith missed out on this one because of vertigo.
It has been 5,462 days since England last won a test match in Australia — dating back to January 2011.
Since then, the Australians have won the series Down Under 5-0, 4-0, 4-0 and are now 3-0. Melbourne will host the Boxing Day test starting Dec. 26 and Sydney will host the fifth test in the New Year.
