The third edition of the Kalamassery Karshikolsavam will take place from August 26 to September 2. Actor-filmmaker Prithviraj will inaugurate the festival to be held at Chakolas Ground, Kalamassery, Industries Minister P. Rajeeve said.
A wide variety of agricultural products and farming equipment will be displayed at 132 stalls at the mega exhibition-cum-sales to be held as part of the festival. Value-added products produced by different units as part of the ‘Krishikk Oppam Kalamasery’ project will also be on display. A meeting of industrialists and entrepreneurs from Kalamassery assembly constituency will also be held.
Various performances by artistes, including professionals and those from Kalamassery, have been scheduled as part of the event. Winners of various laurels, including five Sahitya Akademi winners from the constituency – M. Leelavathy, Sethu, M. Thomas Mathew, Subhash Chandran and Gracy -- will be honoured. Filmmaker Siby Malayil, a resident of Kalamassery constituency, who has completed 40 years in cinema, will also be honoured.
The festival will kick off with a cultural procession from Kalamassery municipal office at 4 p.m. on Tuesday (August 26). Mr. Rajeeve will chair the inaugural meet at 6 p.m. Hibi Eden, MP, District panchayat president Manoj Moothedan, District Collector G. Priyanka, and Kerala Bank chairman Gopi Kottamurickal will attend.
Speaker A.N. Shamseer and Ministers M.B. Rajesh and O.R. Kelu will attend different meetings to be held as part of the event. Entry to the festival is free. Eighteen seminars were held as a precursor to the festival, he said.
