Kendrapada: Three youths accused of abducting a 17-year-old college girl in Jagatsinghpur district, threatening and attempting to force her into religious conversion, were arrested on Monday.
The girl’s father had lodged an FIR on Sept 29, alleging that a 28-year-old man kidnapped his daughter and tried to convert her religion.Based on the complaint, police registered a case. During the probe, they received information that the accused, along with two others, were hiding in Cuttack. Acting on a tip-off, a police team apprehended all three and rescued the girl. The girl was handed over to her family, said inspector-in-charge Sarojkanta Samal.The trio have been charged under Sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 87(1) (abduction or inducement of a woman to compel marriage or illicit intercourse), 142(3) (wrongful confinement of an abducted person), and 143(4) (human trafficking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Samal added. All three were produced in the Jagatsinghpur court on Monday. Their bail pleas were rejected and they were remanded in judicial custody.
