okaro: Three interstate cybercriminals have been arrested in connection with an ATM fraud in Bokaro, in which Rs 3.87 lakh was stolen from Md Murtaza Ansari’s bank account, police said on Saturday.
Two mobile phones used in executing the scam were seized.The three accused arrested were identified as Laxman Kumar of Purana Nagar in Koderma, Suraj Sharma of Koderma Bazaar in Koderma, and Shashi Shekhar of Dhanakal Barasali Ganj in Bihar. They have been sent to judicial custody, police added.Issuing a warning to citizens to exercise caution while using ATMs and not share ATM PINs or card details with unknown callers, SP Harvinder Singh said, “Md Murtaza Ansari visited the Bank of India ATM located at Siwandih to withdraw cash on June 22 around 6:40pm.
His ATM card got stuck in the machine after first transaction. A mobile number written on the ATM prompted him to call for assistance. The caller instructed him to enter his PIN and visit the Bansgoda SBI ATM.
A total of Rs 3,87,999 was fraudulently withdrawn from his account as he followed the instructions.”Investigation revealed that the mobile number belonged to Laxman Kumar of Purana Nagar, Koderma. Laxman had handed over his passbook and ATM card to Suraj Sharma, a resident of Koderma Bazaar, Koderma, who passed it on to Shashi Shekhar of Dhanakal Barasali Ganj in Bihar, the SP added.
