Two of a family bludgeoned to death in Dumka

Dumka: A 72-year-old woman and her granddaughter were bludgeoned to death by unidentified people at a village under the Shikaripara police station limits of the district late on Friday night.

The assailants, however, did not harm a baby, which was sleeping with the victims. The women were killed when they were asleep and when their family members were away. While an FIR was registered on Saturday, no suspect was arrested. The family members of the deceased said they were unclear about the motive behind the double murder.Sona Baski (72) and her granddaughter Sona Murmu (20) were found lying in a pool of blood at their home at Amchua village around 10 pm.

The injury marks on them suggested that the duo had been fatally attacked with sticks and a heavy object while they were asleep. Sona’s six-month-old boy, who was found next to the deceased, was not harmed.Amit Lakra, the officer-in-charge of the Shikaripara police station, said the bodies were sent for the post-mortem examination. “Sona’s in-laws were visiting their relatives at Jalwaduba village under the Kathikund police station limits while her husband Raju Soren was watching a football tournament in the vicinity when they were fatally assaulted,” Lakra said.

Raju returned home around 10 pm and, to his horror, discovered the bodies. The forensic team of the police recovered a bloodstained stick from the scene. “The motive behind the killings remains unclear,” Lakra said. Sub-divisional police officer Vijay Kumar Mahto also visited the spot on Saturday to oversee the investigation. Two people were killed under the same police station at Sunderaphalan village recently. In the incident, a jilted lover stabbed his girlfriend and her sister and brutally killed their parents earlier this month.
