Three boys drown in pond in Ranipet

Three boys, aged between seven and nine, drowned in a pond at Mettukunnathur village near Arakkonam town in Ranipet district on Sunday (July 13, 2025) when they had gone to take bath along with their friends.

The deceased children were identified as S. Bhuvaneshwaran (7), K. Sujan (7) and V. Moni (9). The trio belonged to Mettu Kunnathur village where they studied at a government school.

Initial inquiry revealed that the boys went to the pond which is maintained by Nemili panchayat union, along with a group of friends in the area to take bath despite no knowledge of swimming.

Police said Sujan went to the deeper portion of the pond and got caught in the slush. As he cried for help, Bhuvaneshwaran and Moni went to rescue their friend. All three of them drowned.

Based on the alert, fire fighters from Arakkonam rescued the boys. They were rushed to Primary Health care centre (PHC) in Sholinghur town where doctors said they were brought dead. A case was registered by Banavaram police.
