Three men were killed after a truck lost control and overturned on the Dharwad-Belgaum bypass in Karnataka, the police said. The victims, who were engaged in routine maintenance work along the highway, died on the spot when the truck toppled on them.

The police rushed to the scene shortly after receiving information about the accident. A case has been registered.

In a similar incident earlier this year in January, eleven people were killed and twelve others injured when a truck carrying fruit vendors overturned on NH-63 in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district.

According to the Superintendent of Police, the truck was transporting about 30 vendors and fruits from Savanur to a fair in Uttara Kannada’s Yellapura town, when the driver lost control while allowing another vehicle to overtake. According to the police, the accident occurred around 5:30 am in a forested stretch along the Savanur-Hubballi road.

“As the road in the section doesn’t have barrier walls on the edge, the truck fell into a 50-metre deep valley,” the officer said, informing that the injured were moved to a hospital in Hubballi.

Five people from Shivamogga lost their lives last month in another road accident on NH 52 in Hubballi. The collision involved a car and a truck, with the truck driver fleeing the scene immediately after the incident.
