Three killed, eight injured in road accident in Sri Sathya Sai district

Three persons were killed and eight others injured in a road accident when a transport van collided with an APSRTC bus near Mandlipalli Mitta of Thanakallu mandal in Sri Sathya Sai district on Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 9.30 a.m. when the transport van, travelling from Madanapalle towards Kadiri, tried to overtake a lorry and collided with the bus. Anasuyamma (55), who was in the van, died on the spot, while 10 others in the van were shifted to the Government District Headquarters Hospital in Anantapur. Jahnavi (6) and van driver Manikanta (38) died while undergoing treatment. All of them were returning to their native place Bellari in Karnataka, after having darshan at the Tirumala temple.

Dharmavaram Deputy Superintendent of Police J. Siva Narayana Swamy and officials of the Motor Vehicle Department visited the spot. The police said that preliminary inquiry suggested rash and negligent driving. A case was registered.
