The Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) has detained three habitual and dangerous drug traffickers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic (PIT) in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1988.

The detainees include Suhas Dada Dayagude, also known as Dada Patil, a businessman from Siddarth Nagar, Solapur, Maharashtra, involved in six cases, five in Telangana and one in Maharashtra, who was detained on September 24. Also detained are — Duggempudi Shiva Shanker Reddy, a driver from Burgampahad mandal in Bhadradri Kothagudem, involved in eight cases across Telangana and Maharashtra, detained on October 23, and Sapavath Venkanna, a labourer from Azadnagar, Yellandu, Mahabubabad, linked to four drug trafficking cases within Telangana, detained on October 25.

EAGLE, in coordination with district police, identified and detained three repeat offenders for their continued involvement in transporting and selling large quantities of marijuana across Telangana and neighbouring States.

The special unit, formed to combat the growing menace of drug trafficking in Telangana, invoked the stringent law to ensure the long-term imprisonment of offenders who continue their illegal trade even after repeated arrests. Officials said that narcotic peddling poses a grave threat to society, especially the youth, by causing irreversible harm to health and fuelling criminal behaviour. The department has also initiated steps to seize properties of such offenders.

Following detailed reports from the Superintendents of Police of Sangareddy and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts, the Additional Director General of Police, CID, Telangana, who is the detaining authority, issued detention orders under the PIT NDPS Act to prevent the accused from continuing their activities. All three have been lodged in Central Prison.
