Throwback to when Philip Rivers repeatedly called for referee Ron on gridiron and got into verbal scuffle with Yannick Ngakoue

“Rivers mic up is the best,” wrote an Instagram user on the Los Angeles Chargers’ heartfelt reel of legendary quarterback Philip Rivers’ gridiron moments posted in December 2025.

It starts with the first clip of Rivers screaming, “Ron! Hey Ron! Hey Ron!” Next, he shakes hands with referee Ron and says, “Hey Ron, what’s happening? You alright?” In the third clip, Philip asks, “Why do we do timeouts?” In the following scene, he screams and gestures, “Timeout!” He spots Ron and says, “Ron! That’s too bad.”

Yannick Ngakoue urges Philip Rivers to stay humble

In the fifth clip, Rivers chases Ron, saying, “Hey Ron! Don’t roll your eyes at me. Don’t roll your eyes at me!” In the next clip, he screams, “Ron! Ronnn! Hey Ron! Ronnnn!” again.

When Ron finally looks at him, Rivers calmly enquires, “Third down?” with gestures.Then a few frustrated words follow: “Shoot! Crap! Crap it! [---] it! Gosh, that should have been huge!” In the last clip, Philip screams, “90-yard touchdown!” He passes through then-Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue and a referee, screaming with pauses, “NINETY-YARD TOUCHDOWN!”The referee supposedly says, “Get the [----] out of here!” and directs Philips to walk ahead.

Ngakoue tells Rivers and the referee, “Hey, 17. You see how he’s talking to me, right? Stay humble, bro. Stay humble.”Rivers responds, “I can be excited.” Ngakoue tells him, “But don’t do it by my ear. Don’t do it by my ear!” Rivers stops and says, “I will do it by your ear. That’s what I do. That’s what I do.” Ngakoue replies, “I’ll holler at you after the game. Just keep talking.”

When the Chargers shared this footage on X, fans flooded the comments section in abundance.
