A 10-year-old tiger was found dead in the Segur forest range on Sunday morning.

The Forest Department said the carcass of the animal was found in Gundatti beat of the Segur forest range in the buffer zone of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. A post-mortem on the remains of the animal was ordered based on the protocols established by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), the Department said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the tiger seemed to have suffered injuries, possibly caused by in-fighting with another animal. The department added that samples from the animal were taken for forensic analysis to confirm its cause of death.

This is the second tiger death recorded in the Nilgiris in the last few days. On Thursday, another tiger, aged around eight, died in the Pykara forest range in the Nilgiris Forest Division. Forest officials said that preliminary investigations point to both animals dying as a consequence of natural causes.
