The Tirupati district police made helmets compulsory for motorcyclists starting Monday (December 15, 2025). After conducting awareness drives, sloganeering, and issuing warnings for a week, the rule came into force, with 700 policemen—wearing helmets—taking out a motorcycle rally.
After flagging off the event, District Collector S. Venkateswar rode pillion with Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu, who led the motorcycle rally, with both officials wearing helmets.
The Collector described the rule as essential, citing the tragic number of road deaths among people aged 18–35 and the need to ensure that young people follow safety norms. “Do not wear helmet with the fear of getting caught, but with the responsibility towards your family,” he advised the motorcyclists.
The implementation of the ‘No Helmet – No Petrol’ rule will ensure that fuel stations provide petrol only to motorcyclists who are wearing a helmet. “This tightens the law further and makes our enforcement easy,” said Mr. Subbarayudu.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu appreciated the drive and lauded the district police. Taking to ‘X’, Mr. Naidu in a post lauded the ‘No helmet – No petrol’ rule as having the capability to ensure compliance.
The law came into force simultaneously in all police sub-divisions of the district. In Sri City, the police, along with Sri City’s in-house security force, announced the implementation of the ‘No Helmet – No entry into Sri City’ rule to ensure better adherence to the culture of ‘responsible and secure commuting’.
Circle Inspector Srinivas and Sri City’s security chief Y. Ramesh appealed to riders to wear helmets as a crucial safeguard.
