In a tragic incident, a toddler was killed in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam after a teenager ran him over with a car when the child was playing outside his home, police said on Wednesday (August 6, 2025).
According to the police, the incident took place on Monday morning around 10.30 when 1.5-year-old Rishik Tiwari was playing outside his home Ratlam city’s Alkapuri area with his grandmother standing nearby, when the 16-year-old accused ran the child over.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Ratlam Range, Manoj Kumar Singh told The Hindu that the accused, a student of class 12 at a local school, was driving his father’s car who was visiting him.
“The boy lives on rent nearby and his father had come to visit him from their village when he took the car out for a ride when the incident,” Mr. Singh said, adding that the child’s grandmother tried to stop the car but the boy fled the scene.
A CCTV footage of the disturbing incident has also surfaced on the internet. The purported clip shows a slow-driving car hitting the child and then running him over in attempts to flee, after which the child’s grandmother is seen trying to stop the car and picking up the toddler.
The child suffered injuries in the accident and later passed away during treatment.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rakesh Khaka said that the teen boy and his father, Surendra Singh Rathore have been booked under relevant provisions for the incident.
“We have booked the father for giving the car to an underage person and have begun the investigation in the matter,” he said.
