World No.1 Jannik Sinner collected his first-ever Wimbledon title with a win over two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday at the centre court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The 23-year-old Italian, Sinner, posted a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory against the Spaniard to avenge his defeat to Alcaraz in the final of the French Open.

With a rivalry of sorts developing among the two youngsters, especially during a time the era of the traditional big-three of tennis, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, looks to be coming to an end, Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill opined that it was too early to draw parallels between the current crop of players to the icons who have dominated the 21st century.

“It’s difficult to compare this rivalry to what we’ve just had," Cahill said.

“It’s been a golden age in tennis with Novak and Roger and Rafa. They dominated for 20 years," the coach added.

“To win a Grand Slam back in those days, you had to beat one of them in the quarters, the other one in the semis, and another one in the final," Cahill elucidated on the competition during the heyday of the some of the most successful players in the history of the sport.

Federer and Nadal have called time on their illustrious careers, while the ageing Djokovic remains the only active player from the Big 3.

“These guys still have a ways to go, but they’ve started incredibly well," he said.

“Carlos is a big focus, and both of those guys are pushing each other," Cahill explained.

“The rivalry is real. Hopefully it’s going to be there for the next 10 or 12 years," he concluded.
