As the 77th Republic Day approaches, here’s revisiting the iconic tableaus that have lit up the celebration across the years.

Uttar Pradesh: Mahakumbh 2025: The tableau was breathtaking representation of the Mahakumbh Mela. It featured the spiritual grandeur with depiction of ‘Samudra manthan’, ‘Amrit Kalash’ and holy men bathing on the banks of Sangam. It also showcased a metaphorical confluence of ‘virasat’ and ‘vikas’.

Odisha: Women Empowerment And Silk (2024): The tableau featured the Pattachitra art form and emphasized on the role of women in the state’s craft economy. It was widely praised for its intricate hand-painted details and live performances by traditional dancers.

Uttarakhand: Manaskhand (2023): This tableau featured the Jageshwar Dham amidst the dense deodar forests. It was iconic for bringing the serene, ‘Devbhoomi’ vibe to the Kartavya Path.

Uttar Pradesh: Ayodhya and Ram Mandir (2021): It featured a grand model of the under-construction Ram Mandir. It also gave snapshots of “Deepotsav” and various stories from Ramayana epic along with a giant statue of sage Valmiki.

Assam: Bhortal Nritya & Craftsmanship (2020): It was iconic for its focus on the Bhortal dance and the state’s bamboo and cane craftsmanship. The rhythmic clashing of cymbals by the performers on the float created a unique auditory experience.

Gujarat: Rani Ki Vav (2020): This tableau was a masterclass in architectural replication. It showcased the UNESCO World Heritage site Rani Ki Vav (the Queen’s Stepwell) from Patan. The 3D-depth effect created by the artisans made it look like a real, subterranean structure moving through Delhi.

Karnataka: Evolution Of Coffee (2016): Highlighting the "Coffee Heaven" of Kodagu, this tableau took a unique approach by showing the journey of coffee from the plantation to the cup. It was a colourful, aromatic display that celebrated Karnataka’s agricultural contribution to the world.

Goa, Musical Heritage (2017): It featured a giant frog playing a guitar—a whimsical yet effective symbol for their environmental campaign "Save the Frogs"—blended with the state’s rich Indo-Portuguese musical traditions.

West Bengal: Bauls of Bengal (2016): It captured the nomadic spirit of the Bauls with traditional musical instruments like the Ektara and Duggi, celebrating the UNESCO-recognized intangible heritage of the region.

Kerala: Backwaters and Coir (2013): It beautifully balanced the natural beauty of "God’s Own Country" with the livelihoods of its people, featuring a giant house-boat (Kettuvallam) replica.
