Telangana government announces ₹5 lakh ex-gratia for families of deceased in Kurnool bus fire
In a tragic incident, over 19 passengers were reportedly charred to death and several others were injured when a luxury private bus travelling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire near Chinnatekuru village in Kurnool district early on Friday (October 24, 2025). The private sleeper coach was carrying 43 passengers when it caught fire after colliding with a motorbike in the opposite direction around 3.30 a.m. The Telangana government announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh to the kin of those from the State who died in a bus fire accident in Kurnool district of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. As per the directives of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, those injured in the accident would be provided with a financial assistance of ₹2 lakh, state Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said.
Mumbai advocate petitions NHRC over Deepavali pollution, carbide explosives, animal harm
In a detailed representation to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mumbai-based advocate Hitendra Gandhi has called for an urgent intervention to address the recurring public health-, environmental-, and animal welfare harms caused by indiscriminate firecracker bursting during festivals, particularly Deepavali. “The right to celebrate cannot override the right to live in safety and dignity. Regulation of carbide fireworks is now a matter of life, not just law,” Mr. Gandhi said. “The plea requests the NHRC to initiate a national study, issue public advisories, and recommend preventive regulatory action against the manufacture and use of unsafe carbide fireworks while preserving Diwali’s cultural and religious sanctity,” he added.

Maharashtra doctor ends life, accuses two policemen of rape in note
A woman doctor of a government hospital was found dead in a hotel room in Maharashtra’s Satara district, leaving behind a note accusing two police personnel of rape and mental harassment, police said on Friday (October 24, 2025) .The victim was found dead in a hotel room in Phaltan late on Thursday (October 23, 2025) night, following which the police were alerted, an official said. The deceased was a native of Beed district and worked at a government hospital in Phaltan tehsil, the official said.
‘Forcibly’ evicted from government bungalow; targeted due to caste: Congress leader Udit Raj
Congress leader and former MP Udit Raj on Friday alleged that authorities forcibly evicted his family from their Pandara Park bungalow in New Delhi, despite the matter being sub-judice. There was no immediate response from the government regarding the eviction. The bungalow is allotted to the former MP’s wife, Seema Raj, a retired IRS officer, who said she had paid the licence fee till May 31 this year.

Bollywood singer and music composer Sachin Sanghvi has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a woman by promising her a chance in a music album and marriage, police said on Friday. Sanghvi, known for hit songs in Stree 2‘ and Bhediya was arrested on Thursday (October 23) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
