Finally, a move might just go right for the Spurs. Well, hopefully.

Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of completing the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €60 million ($70m).

According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old Netherlands international has already agreed personal terms with Spurs and completed a medical on Thursday in London.

The transfer now hinges on Simons finalising the last contractual details of his departure from Leipzig, where he enjoyed a standout spell after arriving from Paris Saint-Germain.

Spurs Move Fast After Attacking Setbacks

Tottenham have shifted their focus to strengthening in advanced areas of the pitch, having missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White—who renewed his contract at Nottingham Forest—and Eberechi Eze, who instead opted to join Arsenal.

Simons had been widely tipped for a move to Chelsea, making Spurs’ breakthrough a significant coup. The north London club made an opening bid on Thursday after Leipzig granted permission for Simons to travel, signalling how rapidly negotiations developed.

Why Simons though?

Simons’ tactical flexibility is seen as a major draw for Tottenham. Last season at Leipzig, he primarily operated as a left-sided No. 8 in a 4-3-3, but he is equally comfortable drifting off a central striker or attacking from wide positions — much to the delight of new boss Thomas Frank.

His numbers underscore his attacking threat: 78 appearances for Leipzig, 22 goals, and 24 assists. For the Netherlands, he has already earned 28 international caps, further highlighting his growing influence at the highest level.

Spurs also seemed to have turned their fortunes around for the moment, having recovered in fine fashion after their heartbreaking UEFA Super Cup loss to PSG.

Their win against Manchester City last weekend elevated Spurs to the top of the Premier League, having also achieved a clean sheet in their 3-0 triumph against Burnley on the season’s opening weekend.
