A fan of German football club Leipzig died after experiencing a medical emergency at their German Cup match against Energie Cottbus on Tuesday.
Leipzig announced on X that the supporter became ill while entering the stadium and subsequently passed away at a medical clinic. The club clarified that the incident occurred “without external interference."
“Tragically, one of our fans suffered a medical emergency while entering the stadium. We have just received the sad news that the RB Leipzig fan in question has since passed away in hospital. For this reason, and out of respect for their family, we are reducing our live coverage from Cottbus to a minimum. We ask for your understanding, but in moments like this, football takes a back seat. The club would like to send our deepest condolences to the family," the club said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
Energie Cottbus stated that the individual collapsed as away supporters were entering the stadium and died en route to the hospital.
