The train service between Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam stretch was disrupted for hours on Thursday after uprooted trees fell on railway tracks at Kadakkavaur and Kazhakuttam in the evening. Several trains were held up as traffic had gone haywire after the overhead traction power lines that power the train snapped in the incident.

Kollam Passenger, Malabar Express, Maveli Express, Guruvayur Intercity, Shalimar Express, Punalur Passenger, Parasuram Express, Palaruvi Express, Himsagar Express, Netravati Express and Venad Express were held up at various stations.

According to railway authorities, tree fall at Kadakkavur has been attended to and the obstruction has been removed after ensuring track safety. After this, train services towards Kollam resumed by 9.50 p.m. Trains towards Thiruvananthapuram are being delayed as overhead equipment (OHE) rectification work is ongoing at Kochuveli.

Kochuveli traffic restoration work is being carried out and the traffic will be restored as soon as possible, said Railways.
