A tribal youth was allegedly assaulted, stripped and tied to an electric post for “disrupting traffic” at Attappadi in Kerala’s Palakkad district. A video of the incident — which purportedly showed the youth left at the pole in the heavy downpour for over an hour — drew outrage, prompting the police to arrest two truck drivers.

The incident was last Saturday evening when the youth, Siju V, 19, was walking along a road at Chittur tribal settlement under Agali police station limits in Palakkad. The two people arrested have been identified as Vishnu Das, 31, and Reji Mathew, 21. Residents of Sholayur in Attappadi, the two worked as milk collection agents for a local dairy.

They said I had deliberately fallen in front of their vehicle. One of them tied me to an electric post while the other person recorded it in mobile phone,’’ said Siju in his police complaint. Siju said he was left tied in the heavy rain for more than an hour. “Later in the night, some friends from my settlement took me to hospital,” he said.
