Larry the cat, the famous Downing Street feline, has made headlines after a minor mishap with a photographer as he exited Number 10 following a meeting between Polish president Karol Nawrocki and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

A video shared by The Independent on X shows Larry darting across the doorway as the pair left, forcing the photographer to make a sudden dodge.

The outlet wrote, “Larry the cat tripped up a photographer as he exited Downing Street following Polish president Karol Nawrocki’s meeting with Sir Keir Starmer on Tuesday, 13 January."

Larry, however, quickly stole the spotlight. Responding to The Independent’s video on his X handle, the cat wrote: “ the video and judge for yourself if I “tripped" the photographer or if he stumbled and nearly squashed me."

Social media users were quick to come to Larry’s defence. Comments ranged from playful admiration to outright support.

One wrote: “I mean anyone who’s ever walked behind a cat knows you’re supposed to wait."

A user even had a message to the photographer, writing, “That photographer needs to start living the world through his eyes, not his lens."

Another user added, “You simply strategically positioned yourself for maximum safety and attention. He stumbled and nearly squashed you, that is entirely on his lack of spatial awareness and failure to follow standard Cat Avoidance Protocols. You are innocent."

Other users were equally charmed, calling Larry a “sweet rascal" and “the British Larry Legend". One jokingly described the incident as “attempted murder", while another concluded: “Larry this is your house and carpet. The answer is clear."
