The election for the post of the BJP’s Tripura unit president, slated to be held on Sunday, June 29, has been withheld till further notification, said Samarendra Chandra Deb, returning officer of the BJP’s internal elections.
“The Notification issued vide no.1689/BJP/Sangathan Parv/2024 dated 27/06/2025, for the Election of State President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Tripura Pradesh is hereby withheld until the issue of further Notification,” Deb stated on Friday.
Sources in the BJP said the state president election was stalled due to the inconvenience of the party’s North East coordinator Sambit Patra and Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, who were overseeing the party state chief election, in visiting the state on the day.
As per the earlier notification, the date of submission of nomination papers, their scrutiny and withdrawal and release of the final list of candidates was fixed at June 28, and the election was scheduled on June 29. The results were scheduled to be declared on the same day of the election.
Currently, Rajib Bhattacharjee, incumbent Rajya Sabha MP is serving as the party president.
The delay is merely a matter of a few days due to the unavailability of these leaders, and they are likely to visit by the first week of next month, the source said.
