Agartala: Tripura Police seized a massive consignment of banned cough syrup, worth Rs 2 crore, during a coordinated multi-agency operation on Thursday.According to a press statement issued by the police, a joint team comprising the Govt Railway Police (GRP), West district police, customs department, and the special task force (STF) carried out a planned raid that led to the recovery of 90,000 bottles of Escuf cough syrup (100 ml each, containing codeine phosphate).
The contraband was found in two goods train wagons stationed at Jirania Railway Station in Tripura’s West district.The search operation began on Oct 16 at around 4:30pm and continued through the night, concluding in the early hours of Oct 17. The seized items are estimated to be worth approximately Rs 2 crore in the illegal market.
