US President Donald Trump has officially confirmed a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, scheduled to take place next week. In a Truth Social post shared on Friday, Trump announced that the two leaders will meet on August 15, 2025, in Alaska, to discuss the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska," Trump wrote in his post.

This announcement brings an end to weeks of speculation surrounding the venue for the high-level talks. The confirmation of Alaska as the location comes just days after reports that President Putin had shown interest in holding the summit in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the US administration appears to have pushed for a domestic location, citing security and diplomatic considerations.

The upcoming summit marks Trump’s first official meeting with Putin since beginning his second term in office in January 2025. It will also be the first formal US-Russia presidential meet since June 2021, when then-President Joe Biden met with Putin in Geneva, Switzerland.
