US President Donald Trump on Thursday said Israel would not carry out any further strikes on Iran’s South Pars gas field, while issuing a sharp warning to Iran against targeting Qatar’s energy infrastructure amid escalating hostilities in the region.
Trump said Israel’s earlier strike on the South Pars gas field was carried out “out of anger" and stressed that neither the United States nor Qatar had any role in the operation.
He said only a limited portion of the massive gas facility was hit and claimed Washington had no prior knowledge of the attack.
“The United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was in no way, shape, or form involved with it," Trump said, adding that Iran acted without full knowledge of the circumstances when it later targeted Qatari energy facilities.
Trump warned that while Israel would refrain from further strikes on the South Pars field, any renewed Iranian attack on Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure would prompt a severe response.
