Haryana cop in Rohtak has allegedly committed suicide, accusing the deceased officer, senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, of corruption
CHANDIGARH: A second police officer has died by suicide in Haryana, intensifying scrutiny over the recent death of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. The latest victim, ASI Sandeep Kumar of Rohtak’s cyber cell, was found dead on Tuesday at his maternal uncle’s farm in Ladhot village near Rohtak. Before his death, Sandeep Kumar recorded a video and left a note in which he made serious allegations against former Rohtak IG Puran Kumar and criticised ongoing corruption and caste-based discrimination within the system. He praised Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur as “an honest person” while blaming “people and associations” seeking to undermine him for their own corrupt interests.“The Haryana DGP is an honest person (Shatrujeet Kapur, who was sent on leave on Monday night).
These people / associations that are demanding action against DGP so that they can have freedom to be corrupt. Why are you destroying the country? The poison of casteism is spreading. We should not succumb to corrupt people. Through politics, great truths are being concealed,” Sandeep says.Sandeep was part of the team investigating Puran Kumar in a corruption case. Police recovered the note, video, and a firearm at the scene.
'DGP Shatrujeet Kapur sent on leave' The controversy has placed Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur in the eye of the storm. On Monday, he was sent on leave following mounting pressure from Puran Kumar’s family, Dalit groups, and political opponents. The decision came after Puran Kumar’s wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, refused to allow an autopsy or cremation until action was taken against the DGP. Rajiv Jaitly, media adviser to Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, confirmed that the official leave order had not yet been issued at the time of reporting. The postponement of government celebrations marking the first anniversary of the Saini administration was also announced, amid growing public protests and political pressure. Dalit groups had set up a ‘mahapanchayat’ to demand justice for the family, issuing a 48-hour ultimatum that coincided with Sandeep Kumar’s death. Meanwhile, IPS officer Narendra Bijarniya, also named in the Puran Kumar case, was removed as Rohtak SP, though Amneet P Kumar continued to demand action against the DGP. The series of events has put Haryana’s top police officials and state government under intense scrutiny, raising concerns over corruption, political interference, and caste-based tensions within the administration.
